An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). | 5. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil; add penne and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender yet firm to the bite, about 11 minutes. Drain, return penne to the pot, and stir remaining butter into pasta.
