    | 1. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat; stir in the orzo and garlic and saute until the garlic is fragrant, about 30 seconds. | 2. Add the potatoes, carrots and onion to the pan and continue to cook and stir until the onion and carrot become tender (5-10 minutes). | 3. Season the mixture with the basil, oregano, salt and pepper (remember the parmesan will also add saltiness). | 4. Add the water to the pan and bring to a boil. | 5. Partially cover the pan, reduce heat to a simmer and cook about 12 minutes, or until the orzo is tender and the water is nearly completely absorbed (remove cover after 12 minutes if you need still to cook a good deal of liquid off). | 6.
