    | 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180 C). | 2. Grease and flour a 9-inch square pan. | 3. Beat butter and sugar until creamy. | 4. Beat in molasses, lemon zest, then beat in eggs 1 at a time. | 5. Sift in flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt, stirring until blended. Stir in sour cream, then boiling water. | 6. Scrape batter into prepared pan and bake for 40 –45 minutes, until a tester inserted in the centre of the cake comes out clean. | 7. Cool cake for 20 minutes, before turning out on a cooling rack to cool completely. | 8.
