    | 1. Heat olive oil in a pan. Add the onions, garlic and prepared spices; sauté for about 5 minutes or until softened. | 2. Remove half of the mixture to a clean bowl to cool for the meatballs. | 3. Add the tomatoes and sugar to the remaining onions in the pan, season and simmer for about 15 minutes until reduced. | 4. Add the chopped herbs, egg, ground beef and the breadcrumbs to the cooled onion-garlic mixture, then season and mix everything well with your hands. Shape into walnut-sized balls. | 5. Heat the remaining oil and fry the meatballs until golden.
