    | 1. Toss cabbage with vinegar, sugar and salt. | 2. Allow to marinate for one hour. | 3. In a large, covered saucepan, saute onion in butter until softened. | 4. Stir in cabbage and cook for a few minutes. | 5. Add 2 cups water, corned beef and season with pepper. | 6. Bring to a boil. | 7. Layer apple slices on top of cabbage. | 8. Cover and simmer for 1 hour checking water lever from time to time and adding a little water if necessary. | 9.
