    | 1. Combine dates and raisins in a small bowl. | 2. Pour boiling water over mixture. | 3. Set aside to cool slightly. | 4. Stir together whole wheat flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in large mixing bowl. | 5. Stir egg whites and vanilla into cooled date mixture. | 6. Add date mixture and almonds to flour mixture; stir till well blended. | 7. (Mixture will be thick.) Evenly spread in a lightly greased 9 x 5 x 3 inch baking pan. | 8. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 40 to 50 minutes or till a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. | 9. Cool in the pan on a wire rack for 10 minutes. | 10. Remove loaf from the pan. | 11.
