    | 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. | 2. In a large saucepan over medium high heat bring apples and syrup to a boil-reduce heat and simmer 3-5 minutes or until apples are soft. | 3. Add raisins, nuts and remove from heat. | 4. Pour into an 8-inch square baking dish. | 5. In a medium bowl combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. | 6. Cut in butter and using a fork keep mixing until you get fine crumbs. | 7. Mix together the buttermilk, egg and vanilla. | 8. Pour over flour mixture and stir until just combined. | 9. Drop by large spoonfuls onto warm apples. | 10. Bake for 30 minutes. | 11. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream. | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
