    | 1. Cover salt cod with cold water and soak over night. | 2. Drain and cover with fresh water. | 3. Bring to simmer. | 4. Drain, taste and repeat if cod is too salty. | 5. Drain well and keep warm. | 6. In skilet fry salt pork until crisp (these are called scrunchions) and set aside. | 7. Cook vegetables until tender. | 8. Prepare whit sauce by melting butter ,adding flour and salt and stir together until smooth. | 9. Gradually stir in milk. | 10. Cook stirring constantly until thick. | 11. Arrange salt cod on heated platter. | 12. Arrange vegetables around fish. | 13. Pour white sauce over fish. | 14.
