    | 1. In a skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. | 2. Add beef, in batches, and brown. | 3. Using a slotted spoon, transfer to slow cooker stoneware. | 4. Reduce heat to medium. | 5. Add onions and cook, stirring, until softened. | 6. Add garlic, gingerroot, chilli pepper, cumin, coriander, turmeric, salt, peppercorns, cardamom and cloves and cook, stirring, for 1 minute. | 7. Add beef stock and bay leaf and bring to a boil. | 8. Pour mixture over beef. | 9. Stir to combine. | 10. Cover and cook on Low for 8 to 10 hours or on High for 4 to 5 hours, until beef is tender. | 11. Stir in almonds, cover and cook on High for 10 minutes. | 12.
